Quick Reminder - Best Buy In-store PreOrders Open

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Quick reminder guys: Today is the 25th, so Best Buy’s in-store preorders are now OPEN.
There’s a bonus for those willing to travel to the store: your “preorder ticket” is an empty PSP game case with a special Crisis Core preorder insert.

Best Buy’s Crisis Core “preorder ticket”

Ok, so it’s not press-stoppingly cool, but for those of us who absolutely MUST have EVERYTHING, it’s awesome. Promo material is limited and never lasts long.

Last chance for Crisis Core in-store promo material

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

This week may be your last chance to grab any in-store promotional material for Crisis Core before it’s gone for good! One of the stores nearby has already taken theirs down, another is planning to before closing later today (Sunday). It’s likely the rest of the stores will be taking theirs down sometime this week if it’s not down already. Better hurry in there and grab some CC stuff while you still can!
Edit: A note about the preorder poster - some stores black-out or otherwise obscure the “reserve yours now” text. It may depends on the store or/and if their reached their preorder limit. (My CC poster doesn’t have it blocked out, but another poster I picked up at the same time (for a different game) had it blacked out with permanant marker.). As for condition, there’s tape on the backside of the poster, and some of the edges show some wear (not noticeable unless you’re looking right at it). imo, it would be very difficult to find one in “mint” condition. No word on the mock-cover-inserts as I haven’t picked any up yet. (first Gamestop must’ve ust thrown them out! =O A travesty!)

On a brighter note, starting Monday Best Buy should start taking preorders for Crisis Core (in-store preorders. Online preorders have been open since announcement), in case you want that shiny coverart.

1 month and 1 day until Crisis Core!
(Though I heard a rumor it might be delayed until May? I won’t trust anything unless it’s from SE. Though if they’re re-doing the INCREDIBLY HORRIBLE voiceovers, I’d gladly wait another YEAR)

Crisis Core in-store promo material

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

This deserves it’s own post. It’s been a while since there’s been any FFVII-related in-store material worth collecting. Crisis Core finally fills that gapping whole in our lives as collectors, especially those of us that came too late in the game to grab stuff from the initial release of Final Fantast VII.
Thus far, I’ve only see pro-order posters featuring Zack and PSP case inserts featuring the standard version of the US’s boxart. I’ve only checked GameStops so far, I don’t know what other stores are carrying what, if they even are. I’d guess GameStop and EB Games would be your best bets for promo materials. It’d be nice to see those oversized cardboard boxes, or, I dunno, a giant lifesize standup of Zack? If anyone knows if they even exist, lemme know. (also if you know of additional promotional material).
If you want any of this, I suggest you either already work at one of the participating stores, or head out in about now and ask if you can get your name down to grab the poster or inserts when the store gets rid of them. (Rule of thumb is that store employees get first pick, but some places are really nice, some aren’t. Some are complete asshats and won’t even let you call dibs on anything, even though they THROW IT OUT ANYWAY.)
Can you believe they just throw this stuff out when the promotional period ends? They don’t sell it, or eBay it… they just chuck it dishonourably in the dumpster behind the store. These things can end up being some of the rarest and least-known treasures in FFVII collector-dom!

GO FORTH AND CALL DIBS! (but not in my city. I’ve already called it. =3)
(images may be coming soon, in the super-high-definition quality of “my cellphone camera”)

More ways to spend your money on Crisis Core

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

By now everyone knows you can get a Shinra UMD case when you preorder Crisis Core (only at GameStop, EB Games, Game Crazy in the US, and Amazon.com). But if a special-edition piece of silicon isn’t enough for you, you could always preorder at Best Buy and get this holofoil-edition cover art case which is similar, if not identical to the cover art/case of the version of Crisis Core that came with the Japan-only Crisis Core PSP bundle.
(ok, I cheated and used the JP cover art, but they ARE identical, aside from the US having the “T” rating in place of Asia’s “Cero B”. Not sure if both the US and JP versions of this cover art are holofoil, though. Can anyone confirm?)

If you want something useful, I’d stick with the UMD case preorder. But if you absolutely MUST have every version of everything ever made ever (like me), grab the Best Buy preorder. (It’s worth noting that many Best Buys are not taking in-store preorders until February 25th for a min. $5 deposit, while online orders have been open since the announcement of the promotion). Or grab the Best Buy if you just like shiny things.

Let’s recap:
Japan got:

  • earbuds
  • limited-edition individually numbered silver PSP slims with custom graphics
  • buster sword phone strap

the US gets:

  • silicon UMD case with Shinra logo (better suited for a BC port, imo)
  • shiny version of the JP special edition cover art

Is it me, or does the US *always* get shafted for kickass release goodies? (anyone remember the US “collector’s edition” of Advent Children and Japan’s Advent Pieces? Yeah.) Europe and Australia, you’d probably be lucky to get postcards.

At least our (US) release date is still set for March 25, 2008. *knocks on wood*

Blog up!

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

Just installed a Wordpress blog. Thought it might be a good idea for keeping you guys informed of Square-Enix’s product updates (as related to FFVII, of course!), as well as updates to the site (no, it’s not been abandoned! I just couldn’t find a graphic theme I liked because I’m such a nitpick).

Blog is largely a default right now, but I’m working on changing that! It’s just so fun poking around all the options! *nerd laugh* My proficiency with Wordpress will improve quickly, I promise!
